Sulzer has launched the SyncX™ , a static mixer designed specifically for efficient additive blending in open water channels. This innovative solution addresses the unique challenges faced by water and wastewater treatment facilities that use open channel systems.
Open channel mixing presents several operational difficulties. Flow rates and water levels can vary dramatically between seasons; dropping to just 20% of normal height during droughts and rising significantly during rainy periods. The gentle slope of these channels creates low flow velocities, making effective mixing difficult. Additionally, stringent environmental regulations now demand superior phosphorus removal and denitrification performance, requiring more efficient chemical mixing than traditional technologies can deliver.
The SyncX™ mixer tackles these challenges through its simple yet effective design. Two vanes welded to a frame create large eddies that thoroughly mix additives across the channel's cross-section. The system achieves excellent homogeneity (CoV ≤ 0.05) within just 5–10 seconds and a mixing length of 5–6 channel widths, ensuring efficient chemical usage and cost savings.
Available in stainless steel for standard channel widths of 0.5–2.5 meters, the SyncX™ can be easily installed by bolting to channel borders. This maintenance-free solution offers water treatment facilities a reliable, efficient method for meeting today’s demanding treatment standards while minimizing operational costs.
