Industrial refinery facility implementing Sulzer’s 95+ Heater Technology to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions

Breaking the 92% barrier: How our 95+ heater redefines efficiency

Traditional fired heaters are limited in efficiency due to the risk of sulfur dew point corrosion, which occurs when flue gases cool below the sulfuric acid dew point, leading to equipment damage. The 95+ Heater Technology incorporates a proprietary method to eliminate this risk, allowing for lower flue gas exit temperatures and improved heat recovery.

Rather than a single component upgrade, this technology offers a comprehensive process solution that can be applied to both new installations and retrofits of existing units, ensuring broad applicability across various heater types.

As a result, the 95+ Heater Technology contributes to substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, including CO, as well as other pollutants like SO and NO. Likewise, improved thermal efficiency leads to lower fuel consumption, resulting in operational cost savings and a reduction in the carbon footprint of industrial processes.

The 95+ Heater Technology is versatile and has been successfully implemented in more than 20 successful references in various types of fired heaters and furnaces, including:

  • Reforming heaters
  • Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Vacuum Distillation Unit (VDU) heaters
  • Xylene column heaters
  • Coker heaters
  • Hydrotreating heaters
  • Chemical process heaters
